Her most recent position was with The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) as associate vice president of University Communications, where she managed the communications team of the growing Hispanic Serving Institution.

Prior to UTEP, she was at Bowling Green State University, 2011-2015 as the chief communications officer, where her portfolio included WBGU, the area's public television station. Before that, she was the assistant vice president for Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin. She had been with UT Austin for 10 years, starting as the director of Public Affairs in the College of Liberal Arts and then the director of public affairs for the university.

Prior to working in higher education, her career was primarily in health care, working for several hospitals in Louisiana, the Texas Hospital Association and St. David’s Medical Center in Austin, Texas. She moved to Austin in 1985 to take a job with the Association of Retarded Citizens of Texas, but soon began working as a special projects coordinator for the city’s daily newspaper, the Austin American-Statesman, where she spent seven years.
